How Ocean Winds France uses employee listening to develop a shared culture

Ocean Winds is an international offshore wind company, formed as a 50/50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE. In France, OW develops and operates several offshore wind projects.

Interview with Erwin Peray, People Business Partner

What is your biggest challenge right now?

Our main HR challenge is to continue developing a genuine sense of belonging.

Ocean Winds is a relatively young organization, formed from two groups with their own histories and cultures. We are now at a stage where we want to continue building an identity that is distinctly Ocean Winds and a shared culture that employees can identify with.

What challenges are you trying to solve by using Sparkbay?

We wanted to better understand what employees in France value in their experience and the areas we can continue to improve in our practices and organization.

We already had access to surveys conducted at the group level, but we wanted to complement that information with a more specific view of the employee experience in France.

How does Sparkbay make your work easier?

The platform allows us to create a questionnaire tailored to our reality in France in a flexible and simple way.

Deployment is quick, and we can easily work with different segments to better understand the realities of certain groups.

It is an easy tool to get started with and allows us to quickly obtain the information we are looking for.

What would you do if you did not have a tool like Sparkbay?

Many platforms are designed for much larger organizations and are less suited to our reality.

Another option would have been to use a tool like Google Forms, but we would not have had the same level of confidentiality or the same analysis capabilities.

We also could have relied on annual reviews, but they do not provide the same freedom of expression or the same consistency in how information is collected.

How would you describe Sparkbay to a friend or colleague?

It is a solution that makes it simple and confidential to gather information from employees.

It is easy to set up, simple for employees to respond to, and it also makes the results easier to interpret.

Overall, we are very satisfied.

What benefits have you gained from using Sparkbay?

The first benefit is time savings. Because a survey can be prepared and launched quickly, we can consult employees more regularly.

The ability to offer questions in multiple languages is also valuable given the different nationalities represented in the organization.

Finally, the results are available directly in the platform, which reduces the time required between collecting responses and analyzing them.

What has it been like working with Sparkbay so far?

The relationship has been excellent. The team is very responsive and efficient, and the platform remains easy to use.

Is there one thing you particularly appreciate about Sparkbay?

Simplicity. It applies equally to setting up surveys, the employee experience, and interpreting the results.
